Loma los Pinos foundation joined forces this year with neurologist Dr. Pedro Roa, MD, who is constantly working in the Dominican Republic with a rare disease called PKAN (Panthotenate Kinase Associated Neurodegeneration).
This is a brain degenerative disease that can present with parkinsonian like symptoms, dementia, and death at a young age.
We collaborated by delivering peanut butter (made by Dionis, the young boy we successfully helped several years ago with a corneal transplant) and mayonnaise, both of which have been proven to help patients with PKAN given their ease of swallowing and increased protein/fat content.
During this event, every patients ‘ family received a family basket including the peanut butter and mayonnaise.
